VRS HOMEPAGE

VRS is pleased to announce that it will host an Open House on September 30, 2016, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm to allow members of the public to visit and see the new transload facility.

Thank you for your interest in the Shelburne Transload Facility.

Vermont Railway System (VRS) is a small, family owned Vermont business that employs more than 140 Vermonters. VRS has a 50 year tradition of serving Vermont by helping local businesses expand with efficient delivery of commodities that include animal feed, salt and home heating fuel.

The new facility in Shelburne will help ensure our customers have reliable access to salt, a key commodity during Vermont’s winters. The State of Vermont and more than 100 municipalities depend on our facility for road salt to keep our highways safe. The current Burlington facility is inadequate to meet those needs when winters are severe and this new facility will ensure that the State and our towns can keep our roadways safe.

We have worked closely with our environmental engineers to site a new facility on industrial land in Shelburne in a way that avoids wetlands and is in compliance with all relevant environmental regulations. The new facility is located on land that was zoned for Commercial/Industrial uses by the Town of Shelburne, adjacent to our rail line and with access to US Route 7. br>
Since closing on the property in Shelburne, VRS has been in regular communication with town officials and town residents. We have asked for comments and input to make this a better project and will continue to listen to the community and make adjustments where feasible.
